A Good Weekend and the Start is getting closer

Really good weekend this week. First of all watched a couple of free Jazz festivals and although not really my cup of tea really enjoyed them. Second a friend of a friend is an odds compiler and I got a message to say a 4 runner event had been priced up wrong and a 4/6 shot (according to my friend) was being quoted at 6/4 by a competitor firm. Now at 4/6 shot can still lose but in the long run if the odds are correct you simply cannot lose. Well it did win and only a £30 profit but covered a small loss on the football. Thirdly I started tipping on OBLG site this week and with one more bet to go will end up in profit for September which is not a bad start particulalry because I have been a bit lucky. The one race I had covered (which would have been a not bet on the account) looked sure to be placed at worst when after the second last flight 2 horses that had been out with the washing (and according to connections after the race nearly pulled up) absolutely flashed home to push my horse into 5th!

Well we had a really good card at Market Rasen on Saturday with a Class 1 and 3 Class 2 races so I have decided to start my weekly e-mail early and post for free upto the start of the season proper (6th November). Just go to www.cheltenhamchampions.com and e-mail me. I will be updating the site later today. Any way thanks to the other bloggers I am now reading a good luck to all.

Tipsters Revenge

Having talked for the first time about ISIRIS this morning wow! Not only did he for the first time this year talk about "possibly" continuing next year but he also goes and tips an 11/1 winner followed by a maximum account bet winner at 9/4, thereby restoring the account to pretty much where it had been back at the end of March. I had a small bet on the insider at 9/1 and settled for that. You can imagine how chuffed he is and the vintage bubbly will certainly be flowing tonight! Well good luck to all his followers and long may the recovery last.

As ISIRIS says stick to sound principles and don't panic, so back to my third love www.cheltenhamchampions.com and continuing with the hard work.

Other Bloggers and Other Tipsters

I read an interesting article in the Racing Post Weekender yesterday which put me onto a blogger and through his blog onto a couple of others. Its nice to know there are like minded people out there trying there best at this game. For interest the blogs I am now following are: -

http://theexperiment-self-indulgentbullshit.blogspot.com/2008/09/not-my-month.html
http://spenner68.blogspot.com/2008/09/picking-up-threads.html
http://betyourlife.blogspot.com/2008/09/oxford-utd-v-cambridge-utd-in-running.html

I was interested in the second blog because he seems to follow tipsters, whic alot of people do but not many own upto, two of which I am also interested in.

The Mathematician, Guy Ward is very good. A really honest individual with a huge amount of experience in this ganme and who is well in touch with the markets, the game and himself. I really respect his ability to minimise losing runs and his understanding of statistical analysis (i.e. in applying it to winner finding) is second to none. You will go along way before finding a more decent, hard working and talented tipster than Maths. You can find him here: -

http://www.mathematician-racing.co.uk/

The other is ISIRIS or Kevin Booth. I have been with him on and off for longer than I have been married (and with as many ups and downs!) and I have enormous respect for his talents. He specialises in 8 runner affairs with a strong/odds-on "hyped" favourite each way particularly in Novice Chases and Maidens. He doesn't do failure and is great at marketing but his biggest problem is he is too successful and at SP you will struggle to make a profit. He is (as you will know from JP's blog) on a losing run since last March, so much so he has exhausted my bank amd "forced" me to look to my own strengths and crack this game once and for all! This, btw, is ISIRIS's last season and although I suspect the service will carry on in some form (e.g. the Mark Your Card service) it will not have Kevin at the helm. I remember writing to him when he was in prison and I don't know whether it had anything to do with me but I suggested he write a book while he had the time, and subsequently he did produce one. Unsurprisingly for Kevin it was expensive but well worth it!

My problem has always been DISCIPLINE! I wanted an easy way of finding winners. I love the "buzz" of winning and have not until now been prepared to put the hard work in necessary to win in the longer run and to stop losing in the short run. When I was working I could afford to be undisciplined and in fact it was part of my way of relaxing, but now I am getting a buzz out of doing it properly. It is early days yet and it struck me reading other peoples blogs, the true test of a good tipster is longevity. That is to say, it is easier to be around for 2, 3 or 6 months but to be around for 2,3 or 6 years (like Maths and ISIRIS), is another thing altogether.

Anyway back to my third love (after Elaine my wife and Tom my son)

Be Careful What You wish for....

When I met my wife some 12 years ago now (and I have to say they have been the best and happiest 12 years of my life), she said something which at first I thought was simply stupid. I have since realised this is a well known saying but I had not heard it before and it simply sounded rubbish. Anyway, since then I have a number of examples of where it is so true that you should indeed be careful what you wish for because it just might come true.

The first pertains to me. As a naive 17 year-old I used to go dringking in the Lord Nelson pub in Alcester. At that age, after a couple of pints (which I really didn't enjoy anyway), I was pretty drunk and it was not unkown for me to be sick. I hated this and really wished I could hold my drink. Well much later in life after I started going racing regularly I got my wish. I soon become able to drink heavily and by and large (except on a really heavy session) was able to do so and not get too drunk nor too sick. Now don't get me wrong there were some hardened drinkers who could drink me under the table (I have one or two stories about that to tell, well that other people have told me because I simply cannot remember!) but I could generally hold my own. So I got my wish but the consequences...........

Yes I now have liver damage. I won't go to the doctor as I don't want to know how badly but it just shows you my wife was right. I don't tell her that of course. I am now trying to let my liver recover. I don't know how successful this will be but I don't regret anything and I am not giving up drinking. I do however accept the consequences of my actions and am much more careful what I wish for!

Anyway some good news I have got my first reciprocal link on my new web-site (www.cheltenhamchampions.com ), which may not sound too much (in fact it isn't), but I am so grateful and it has really made my week!
Anyway take care and talk to you soon.

Its Official Summer is over!

Well I can well and truly reveal that summer is over. My daily morning trip around Scarborough Castle and North Bay with Oscar our dog has confirmed it.

The road was grey from overnight rain, the sea was grey with numerous white flecks and the sky was grey turning gun metal blue suggesting more rain was on the way. The air was not the summery breeze that we have got accustomed to over the past few months but a northern cold wind gusting from off the sea. Even the dog huddled closer!

The good news is this also means the National Hunt Season is nearly here and my efforts continue with my new web site ( www.cheltenhamchampions.com ) . Total members to date = 0 but it is still early days. A few winners at the October Cheltenham meeting and I can start marketing properly, meanwhile the business costs continue to rise. Its interesting one day my wife is being supportive and telling me to keep going, the next she is telling me to get a proper job! I will show her.

Cheers for now and hope its warmer where you are.

Cheltenham Champions

Hi, Slow progress at the moment with the National Hunt season not gearing up for another few weeks. I am happy with how my web-site is coming along ( www.cheltenhamchampions.com ) but the more I consider the world wide web I realise how many tipsters there are out there. I would like to think I am running an honest hard working site but I guess so many others feel the same.

I won't start marketing (although I'm not sure what that means yet), until I have started the weekly e-mails and I have had a few tips that are showing a profit and then I need to decide the best way forward. I subscribed to the STOMPERNET freebies and am waiting my first production. My intention is to cancel my subscription and I am a bit worried whether this will be possible, but I will wait to see the first edition.

My wife is having a real go at me at the moment and wants me to get a proper job!! I put it down to the time of the month but I'm not sure I will survive to many more ear-batterings!!

Thats all for now talk to you soon.

Cheers

Adrian

The Start of something Big or another life experience?

Hi,

My name is Adrian and I have just launched my first web-site! It's dedicated to the Cheltenham Festival and pin-pointing value Ante-Post positions (http://www.cheltenhamchampions.com/).

Will this be the start of something big or just another life experience to learn from?

I have for years tried to balance a full-time demanding job and a family, with my interest in National Hunt racing and in particular the Cheltenham Festival but it was just not possible. The odds compilers were always one step ahead of me but I did notice that when I specialised and focused on one race and spent sufficient time, I found I was able to find a small but real edge.

Anyway I recently had the chance of early retirment but if I took this chance, I would still need to generate some income to balance our books. So after much agonising and some arguments with my wife, we decided to take the plunge.

I found a firm who made it relatively easy to set up my web-site and hey ho I'm out there! I have no idea how people will find my site let alone whether anyone has any interest in my quite narrow field but I will keep you posted on progress.

I intend to post some free reviews to try to generate interest and show what I am (or am not!) capable of doing.

Any suggestions on how I can develop will be gratefully received (reply here or contact me through http://www.cheltenhamchampions.com/).

Anyway cheers for now and I wish everyone undertaking any new venture much luck and success.

Adrian
